Dr. Adel Barsoum Ph. D

Dr. Adel L. Barsoum received his Ph.D. from Christian Albrechts University, Kiel, Germany in 1965.  He then joined the faculty at the Heinrich Heine University Medical Center in Düsseldorf, and at the University of Essen. He was also a visiting scientist at the Chester Beatty Cancer Research Institute in London. He did his postdoctoral studies at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Barsoum has conducted extensive research, and co-authored numerous publications in the field of immunochemistry generally and specifically in the expression of the Oncofetal antigen in different types of murine and human tumors. Dr. Barsoum was among the team that identified this antigen as an immature laminin receptor protein, which is conserved in rodents and humans. It has been determined to play a role in tumor invasion and metastasis, and is found to be autoimmunogenic in the tumor-bearing host.  Currently, Dr. Barsoum is involved in the research and development of the Company’s product line in its laboratory and the University of South Alabama. Dr. Barsoum is also monitoring B- and T-Cell immune response of breast cancer patients immunized with recombinant pure OFA/iLRP loaded on their autologous dendritic cells in an FDA-authorized Phase I / II clinical trial.
